Ghent

Ghent is a charming, gastronomic city. In the historic city centre, you’ll find buildings with a story to tell. The city hosts many events such as the Light Festival, the Christmas Market, and the Gentse Feesten. We fell in love with this city and have been living here happily for a few years now!

Belfort

Between 1313 and 1380, the 95-metre-long Belfry was built, topped with the legendary ‘Dragon of Ghent’ that stands atop the tower.

The Belfry became a symbol of the city’s autonomy and independence.

During World War II, the Germans used it as a command post, creating an underground tunnel system from Sint-Baafsplein.

Today, the Belfry is one of the three main towers in Ghent’s skyline. You can visit the spire of the tower yourself.

Visit the Belfry of Ghent

From the top floor of the Belfry, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city, overlooking the St. Nicholas’ Church and the St. Bavo’s Cathedral.

On the way up, you’ll find a small museum on each floor. There’s also plenty for children to do, such as ringing the bell to their favourite song and searching for a missing dragon egg.

Visiting Ghent on a city break? This is an absolute must-do.The Belfry of Ghent is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. In winter, you can even watch the sunset from the spire.

Everyone has heard of the Ghent Festivities, and you definitely have to experience it at least once. Every July, the city is transformed into one giant celebration.
