Must-do’s in Bali
- Spend a few days exploring Ubud.
- Treat yourself to a daily (or twice-daily) massage.
- Visit Nusa Lembongan.
- See at least one of Bali’s famous temples.
A little in love with Bali, right from day one. The culture, the food, and most of all, the people. The Balinese are incredibly welcoming!
We were lucky enough to attend a full moon ceremony where we were almost the only tourists. We stayed in a guesthouse with a wonderful family preparing for the event. They invited us to join and made sure we were fully dressed for the occasion: Denis wore an udeng—a traditional headscarf—while Kimberly donned a kebaya—a delicate, lace blouse.
After the ceremony, we spent hours playing with the children, communicating without understanding each other’s language.
Hello Bali, you are truly beautiful.
Visit Tanah Lot
Tanah Lot is a magical place, especially at sunset when the silhouette of the temple contrasts beautifully against the setting sun.
You can visit the temple on foot during low tide, or by boat when the tide is high.
In Ubud, you can dive into the hustle and bustle of the lively centre with its countless restaurants, shops, massage parlours, and markets. But take a turn down a different street, and you’ll suddenly find yourself surrounded by rice fields.
Monkeys, waterfalls, hidden temples, untouched jungle…
Ubud is a little paradise.
Pura Ulun Danu Bratan
A temple you must visit on a road trip through Bali. The temple sits on Lake Bratan and appears to float at times due to the reflective water. Located 1,200 metres above sea level, it’s a perfect spot to cool off.
Nusa Lembongan, a small island near Bali, covers an area of 8 km². With its beautiful white beaches and vibrant underwater world, it’s the perfect place to unwind. Easily explore the island by scooter or bike.
Kayak through the mangrove forest, snorkel among the coral reefs, visit Devil’s Tear, or enjoy a refreshing fruit smoothie at a beach bar with an infinity pool.
Do you love island hopping?
We do! A visit to the Gili Islands was a perfect addition to our Bali trip. Want to know if the Gili Islands are right for you?
Onze rondreis door Bali in 27 dagen
Here’s how our trip looked:
Sanur: 1 night
Nusa Lembongan: 3 nights
Padangbai: 1 night
Amed: 3 nights
Ubud: 7 nights
Canggu: 3 nights
Gili Trawangan: 3 nights
Gili Air: 4 nights
Kuta: 2 nights
We also spent 8 days in Singapore.
It was truly a backpacking trip with no fixed itinerary, just a wishlist. We didn’t even make it to the south of Bali, which was originally part of the plan.
Instead, we rode around on our scooter until we found a nice spot, and that’s how we discovered Amed.
Even though we had 27 days in total, we still didn’t manage to see half of what we wanted to!
If you’re currently planning a trip to Bali, we’d highly recommend not missing Nusa Lembongan, Ubud, and Canggu. We weren’t as keen on Kuta and Padangbai.
On this page, you’ll find our photos and various tips from Bali! Curious about the Gili Islands? We’ve dedicated another page to them.
For your Bali bucket list.
