Jacuzzis and northern lights: Discover 5 Aurora hotels in northern Norway

In case you didn’t know, now is the time to plan your trip to the North. After all, we are in a ‘solar maximum’. That means: more frequent and intense Northern Lights. This maximum could peak in 2024 or 2025. After that, it will be another 11-year (!) wait for this maximum. So if you really want to maximize your chances of seeing the Northern Lights, head north as soon as possible!

You can see the Northern Lights in Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden. We chose northern Norway and are happy to share some beautiful spots with you. Accommodations where you can watch the Northern Lights and enjoy a Jacuzzi, hot tub or sauna at the same time!

Buvik Sea Lodge

For us, Buvik Sea Lodge was one of the best accommodations, ever. The surroundings are so beautidul! This is also a place where you will completely unwind.

The flat is just under an hour’s drive from the city of Tromsø. From your own little balcony, you can look out over the sea and the mountains. In your own little kitchen, you can prepare your own meal, or go out to eat at one of the restaurants a few minutes’ drive away.

If it is not cloudy, you can see the Northern Lights from your living room. And if you happen to be asleep by then, you can use the Aurora wake-up service.

Spend the rest of the day enjoying a walk on the beautiful island, or of course, in the sauna or jacuzzi.

North Experience Basecamp

Always wanted to see the Northern Lights in a glass cabin, in an idyllic setting? It’s possible at the North Experience Basecamp in Melen!

In the communal lavvu (tent), you will enjoy a Sami experience and the delicious meals offered by this accommodation.

In the surrounding area, you can take beautiful hikes, ski and, of course, spend hours in the accommodation’s jacuzzi or sauna.

Aurora Borealis Observatory

The Aurora Borealis Observatory is located on the island of Senja. You can choose from two different flats. Both have large windows so you can just watch the Northern Lights from your bed.

There is also a hot tub and plenty of skiing opportunities nearby. The accommodation also rents out ski equipment itself.

Tromsø Lodge & Camping

Don’t you want to sleep in the middle of nowhere? We understand. Tromsø Lodge & Camping is a good option. The complex is located just outside the city centre, so you don’t need a (rental) car either.

Tromsø Lodge & Camping offers several bungalows and is very affordable (for Norwegian standards). And you can also relax in the sauna there.

Even though you’re close to the city, you won’t notice that easily. You’re just in a beautiful piece of nature and surrounded by mountains here.

Robukta Lodge

Robukta Lodge is also located in the city of Tromsø. It is next to the city beach, Telegrafbukta. This is a very nice area and even though you are still in the city, it is nice and quiet.

The rooms are currently no longer rented out separately, which is a shame. But should you plan to travel to Tromsø with a large group, this is an interesting option. After all, the villa with hot tub and sauna can accommodate as many as 22 people.
