On the La Maddalena Archipelago, you’ll find some of the most beautiful beaches, which become even more magical at sunset. Looking for the best spots to catch the sunset? We’ve got you covered!
Cala Dadini
This spot is one of the reasons we’ve fallen in love with La Maddalena. There are so many quiet corners where you can have the whole beach to yourself!
To get there, head to the island of Caprera, which is connected to La Maddalena by a bridge. Park your car along the road Str. Cala Garibaldi – Arbuticci, then follow the hiking path. It’s a good idea to download the app ‘Maps.me‘, as it clearly marks all the walking paths (much better than Google Maps).
The footpath is easy, though you’ll need to do some rock-hopping and searching at times. But the reward is worth it—quiet coves where you can soak in the tranquility and stunning views. If it gets crowded, just keep walking to the next beach—Cala Serena is another beautiful spot nearby.
Bring your own drinks (and plenty of water!) for sunset, as there are no facilities here. Also, make sure your phone is charged in case you need to use it as a flashlight for the walk back.
Localita Cala Carlotto
At almost the northernmost tip of La Maddalena’s main island, you’ll find Cala Carlotto. This spot offers a mix of ancient military remains, small beaches, a chapel, and stunning rock formations.
On the estate, you’ll also find the bar Carlotto Chiosco. While it’s not the cosiest bar, it’s located near the beach where we took this photo. Our recommendation? Order a pint, sit on the beach, and enjoy the sunset!
Spiaggia di Punta Tegge
Spiaggia di Punta Tegge is made up of small beaches and unique rock formations. Don’t stop at the first little beach—make sure to walk over the rocks to explore the various viewpoints.
The best part? You don’t need a car to get here. This popular sunset spot is an easy walk from the centre of La Maddalena. While it’s a well-known location, it’s spacious enough that you can still find a quiet spot to enjoy the view.
Not a fan of sitting on the rocks? You can enjoy the sunset with a cocktail in hand at the Punta Tegge cocktail bar, located at the starting point. After the sun goes down, head to the Zi Anto restaurant for a great meal—definitely a place we recommend!
Capocchia d’ù Purpu (Testa di Polpo)
Located on the small island of Giardinelli, which is connected to La Maddalena by a bridge, Capocchia d’ù Purpu is named after a rock formation that resembles an octopus head.
This is a fantastic spot to watch the sunset, especially during the off-season. The beach is stunning, and the water is crystal clear. However, it can get quite crowded during the high season, making it less peaceful than other spots. Although it’s popular, we found ourselves preferring the quieter spots mentioned earlier.
That said, the rest of Giardinelli Island was very peaceful when we visited. So, don’t skip this little island—it’s definitely worth a visit during your time in La Maddalena!
Accommodation tip La Maddalena
We took this photo from our flat in La Maddalena. It’s centrally located but just far enough from the nightlife, so we had no noise at night. Plus, there are plenty of parking options nearby.
The flat was perfect for us—it has two lovely balconies, two bedrooms, a spacious living room, and a kitchen. Another great perk: you can borrow a beach parasol, which was super handy!
Sardinia Road Trip
While La Maddalena was one of our highlights, we loved every stop on our Sardinian adventure. Over the course of our two-week road trip, we explored some of the most stunning beaches in Europe, charming Sardinian towns and villages, and towering mountains.
